As Founder, Michelangelo Quiñones launched Q LifeSprings Development in July 2021 as part of a 15+ year journey serving in public school as a teacher, instructional specialist, school administrator, and, perhaps most importantly, becoming a parent of a child also diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.  Subsequently, he went on to instruct in a homeschool setting that enabled his child to attain measurably significant academic, socio-emotional, and developmental progress, as well as greater self and social awareness.  These milestones were the culmination of guidance, support, and collaboration between a variety of therapists, seasoned practitioners in the field of autism, as well as health professionals working with family and community resources toward the greatest successful outcome.

Michelangelo then transitioned into a private school setting where he led, advised, and helped transform the school and organization's overall direction and vision through teaching, modeling, coaching, and mentoring staff and leadership toward best practices and services for neurodivergent individuals and their families.  He has now expanded to serving and working directly with families of the various diverse communities across the greater Houston area.

Realizing that the needs and support for neurodivergent students requires a more holistic understanding and specialized approaches to address foundational areas along with academics, Michelangelo has developed his own unique and integrated training methods for nurturing effective teaching and learning for school and life.

As a result, individuals with neurological differences are empowered in a relatable and meaningful way to cultivate the tools and strategies to learn, self-regulate, build healthier relationship connections, enhance communication, demonstrate competency, and develop at greatest capacity.

Q LifeSprings Preparatory

Our preparatory school program is committed to helping transform the lives of children with learning differences, speech/communication challenges, sensory support needs, developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, and other neurological differences.  We provide a tailored approach to nurture academic, self-regulation and awareness, communication, executive functions, socioemotional and relationship development that empowers students with the strategies and skills to overcome barriers, and flourish in education and life.

Curriculum

We offer a multisensory engagement approach to our academic programming in Language Arts/Literature, Writing, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Fine Arts, PE, and Integrated Learning.

We use research based and validated methods proven to strengthen both the foundational and more advanced academic areas.  1-1 and small group learning is part of daily instruction!

Parent and family trainings are available upon request as a matter of including family members in the process, and an overview of the approaches involved in the  work with the student.

Communication, Self-Regulation, and Executive Functioning

In collaboration with the student, parents/family, teacher, health professionals, and community resource partners, we design a learning and development plan to meet the students' specific needs.  Progress toward meeting targets and agreed upon goals are tracked, reviewed, and routinely discussed as part of the student's designed plan.

As goals are met, new ones are collaboratively set in place with student input included.  Thus, greater ownership over the learning is promoted, and the strategies to self-regulate combined with the skill set to meet goals becomes more meaningful and relatable to the student.

Life Skills & Lifestyle for Living  Independently

Embedded into the curriculum, we provide opportunities to extend learning into real world applications like planning a budget, planning for purchasing items at the store with integrated scenarios for social skill practice and development.

Transferable skills are facilitated through project based learning as a team, and independently, as well as community service projects students feel are important.

We offer a variety of physical activity daily to promote a healthy heart, self-awareness, coordination, and mobility. Students learn of simple meal preparations, careful to follow family and doctor's orders, to create their own cookbook of recipes.

Mindfulness strategies, breathing techniques and  body movement, along with Self-Reg, support a more restorative and connected mind and body.

Socio-emotional and Relationship Development

Through a wide range of socially supported opportunities, such as team building projects, celebrations with peers, small group floor play, prearranged social engagements with both family and community, we foster and create healthy relationships.  As a result, your child will  learn how to initiate and participate in diverse  social settings.

Additionally, integrated are restorative practices to facilitate peer mediated plans for resolving differences and building relationship connections.

Parent and family trainings are also provided to strengthen communication, connection, and relationship with student.

TESTIMONIALS

Q LifeSprings Client, Memorial-Houston

"As a parent, I tend to be mindful and observant if the person working with my child with special needs will be a good fit.  However, with Q Life, no matter what has arisen they've been equipped to handle it calmly and with great  strategies.  The learning continues to be very interactive, and in a way that grabs my child's interest.  My child is comfortable, and works well in their approach.
"Q LifeSprings truly understands the special needs of the children they serve.  I noticed a difference in my almost non-verbal child very early on in emotional regulation, self-advocacy, and various life skills.  I've observed these developments go beyond the school,  and generalize to extend out into the home....Mr. Q also takes the time to meet and work with us as parents, separately, to help us better understand and work with our children."
